Joy Buolamwini

Joy Buolamwini was born in 1989 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
She is currently still alive and is 34 years old. Joy received her bachelor's
degree in computer science at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Later,
she received two masters degrees from the University of Oxford and
MIT. Joy realized that there were biases in artificial intelligence. She
saw that certain AI devices aren’t able to recognize faces of darker color.
Joy was able to discover that major companies like Microsoft and
Amazon used biased AI services. In her TED talk, she explained
what she is doing to fight against the biases, and she has presented
her research to the United Nations. Her research allows people
to break through barriers, and improve the use of AI technology.
Not only that, but she is part of the Global Tech Panel, and she won
the Carol Jenkins awards. Also, she won a prize in the National
Search for Hidden Figures contest, and she was the youngest
woman in Forbes Top 50 Women in Tech.
